The Pit at Fields End Waters
Doddington

18th Febuary 2015

Fields End Waters is a great little caravan park in Doddington cambridgeshire.

It has two lakes, the Pool that is a true commercial match lake and the Pit which is more natural and harder to fish.

The pool has fish upto double figures and the Pit has carp to 30lb plus.

It was a cold and windy day and apart from us only one other angler had been brave enough to fish.

We were both fishing the method on our carp rods and the flat method on our feeder rods.

I was fishing at about 80 metres and Jack was closer at about 40.

We had few recasts around to try and find the fish as none were showing anywhere on the lake. We had nothing for a couple of hours and then Jack had a shy drop back take on his feeder.

He played the fish beautifully for about 5 mins and then I netted a great looking Leather carp of 13.98 lbs.

It was Jacks PB Leather and great to see how happy he was with the catch.

Unfortunately we saw no further action but what a lovely fish for Jack.

This is a great little site, friendly and comfortable recommended to all.

until the next time, thanks for taking the time to read

Fishing The Pit

"The Pit" covers roughly three acres and was created in 1980, and for the last twenty five years has been a fishing lake. It is widely respected to be a quiet, tranquil and above all a friendly fishery, with its own on-site bait shop where can also pick up a cup of tea or an ice cream.

"The Pit" is host to many varieties of fish including Carp, Crucian, Tench, Perch and Roach. The largest carp to be caught in "The Pit" so far is 27lbs, and one of our regulars recently took a 10lb Tench. There are twenty-four swims around the outside of the pit, and in the summer months and bank holidays it is advisable to arrive early as it does get busy.

On the site is the Hut - where you fill in your tickets (see "How to Pay" at the bottom of this page) and also a unisex toilet and sink with hot and cold running water. Having toilet and washing facilities improves the comfort of all users, but especially for our female visitors - whom we are keen to encourage.

The car park has plenty of space for everyone, and the lakes are in easy walking distance. Registered Disabled users with a valid blue badge may drive right up to the lake other vehicles must remain in the car park which is very close to the lake.

Fishing The Pool

"The Pool" opened for fishing in September 2004. It has been stocked with thousands of Carp, Chubb, Barbel, Ide and Tench - ranging from half a pound to ten pounds, but they are all growing very quickly.

The Pool has become very popular venue for pleasure fishing, with the fish sizes increasing rapidly, the lake suits a large range of fishermen.

Unfortunately from 2013, we have stopped private clubs from booking the Pool for thier matches, due to high demand from our pleasure anglers, so you can rest assured the "The Pool" will always be open for pleasure fishing.

"The pool" is open for pleasure fishing everyday. We sell an evening ticket from 4.45pm onwards, but there is no addmission for anglers or visitors after 5pm.
